The Worst Games of 2025, Based on Metacritic

Across the internet, enthusiasts are quick to share their lists of the greatest games of 2025. But what about the flops, the failures? It's time to take a few moments to recognize the lowest-rated games of the year, according to the critical consensus on Metacritic. Could each of these games as bad as the ratings suggest? Here is the list.

10. Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour

Aggregate Score: 54/100, User Score: 3.4/10

The early response to this showcase title were shaped by its $9.99 price tag, with many voicing frustration it wasn't a bundled game like some other console launches. Professional assessment varied dramatically, from harsh disappointment to more generous reviews that praised the charming software underneath the controversy. Regardless of the debate, the title proved to be a notable commercial performer during its launch month.

9. Rennsport

Aggregate Score: 53/100, Audience Score: 3.2/10

Marketed as "more than a racing game," this simulation from European developers was met with largely negative reviews. The consensus was that the game felt unfinished in key areas, notably in a year packed with excellent racing experiences. In the eyes of critics, this underwhelming entry was best left on the shelf.

8. Bubsy's Purrfect Collection

Metascore: 53/100, Audience Score: 8.6/10

First things first: the awkward colon usage is a silly annoyance. This anthology of 1990s-era platforming games revives a "attitude"-filled feline known for constant quips. Reviewers noted that these games were not good to begin with and haven't gotten better with age. The notably positive user score stands as a baffling anomaly to the critical reception.

7. Nen x Impact

Metascore: 53, User Score: 3.5

This manga-based fighter faced significant backlash from both professionals and the dedicated community. Complaints centered on a limited character selection and a severe lack of content. User reviews was especially harsh, with some stating a desire that the title's flop would be a warning for the developers.

6. Neptunia Motorcycle Game

Aggregate Score: 51, User Score: 5.3

A part of the niche Hyperdimension Neptunia series, this vehicle combat game tasks players with collecting Dogoos. Reviewers felt that its goal to mimic a unique gameplay loop was unsuccessful, coming across as more of a quick spin-off than a worthy series entry. Its short length combined with a full retail cost was criticized.

5. Captain Blood

Aggregate Score: 50, Audience Score: 5.3

This title is a curious artifact from the Xbox era, launched after a very long time in development hell. The publishers consciously chose to keep the game as an authentic product of its time, accepting that today's audiences might dislike its dated design. As such, many reviews concluded that the fascinating story of its journey was far richer than the end product.

4. Scar-Lead

Aggregate Score: 44, User Score: 2.4

This anime-styled action game drawing from games like *Returnal* failed to impress with critics. Common complaints centered on repetitive adversaries, monotonous stage design, and a forgettable story. A controversial mechanic involving the character's attire was universally disliked and took away from the game's enjoyment.

3. Ambulance Life

Metascore: 44, User Score: 4.9

Think of the tense surgery games of the past, then take out the memorable characters. That, according to reviews, is roughly *Ambulance Life*. Players found the core gameplay loop to be a slog, and the treatment of mental health topics was criticized as being tone-deaf. The overall experience was deemed largely unsatisfying.

2. Tamagotchi Plaza

Metascore: 43, User Score: 5.8

This new direction for the classic virtual pet formula turns the franchise into a town-management title. The result, according to critics, was a unsatisfying series of basic activities that very soon overstayed its welcome. Some reviews went so far as to declare it one of the most disappointing titles available on its platform, noting a complete absence of satisfying gameplay.

1. MindsEye

Metascore: 37, User Score: 2.5

Positioned as a blockbuster GTA-style title from a studio led by industry veterans, *MindsEye* was a catastrophic disappointment. Reviews universally panned its poor shooting mechanics, dull missions, and a multitude of game-breaking glitches. Several found it to be a significant step back compared to previous-generation games in the similar style. Amidst the overwhelming criticism, a small handful of optimistic players found value in the experience, offering a distinct contrast.
